Summer Learning Journey - Week 2 - Day 1 - Airport Language- Activity 1

Today I am here to write about if I went to a country and I never knew what language they were speaking so I had to write a poem about it. This is my poem.

I always felt it quite,
strange and scary,
that everyone is in a small world,
but in a big place,
like an airport,
and I wonder how I will fell,
if I didn't know how to speak there language,
It would be the scariest thing in the whole world,
I will be confused,
and all those emotion,
but not happy or excited.

  1. Hi Anna. I really enjoyed reading your poem.. it made me think about how I would feel if I was in a country where I didn't speak the language. It would be really hard though I'm sure there would also be people who could help - even if it was just using jestures instead of words. I live in London and am glad that everyone speaks English there like me. Hope that if you are ever in a place where you dont speak the same language as everyone else, you dont find it too scary and you find people who can help you. Looking forward to any other poems you post on your blog!! Suzanne

    1. Thank you Suzanne,

  2. Hi Anna,

There is almost no need to worry. Do you know what English is known as? It is the worlds second language. All kinds of people use it to conduct business all over the world, rather than learn heaps of different languages. It is like a bridging language.

I am sure you would be fine. No need to be scared. There are lots of ways to communicate. For example if you are hungry you can rub your tummy and point to your mouth, or if you want to order something, just point to the pictures, or you can do the international dance of "where is the toilet? it's urgent!" which is always hilarious.

I hope you're having a great holiday and to see you online again soon.

    Kia kaha,
